## Mechanical properties (typical values, not certified minimums)

| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Tensile strength | — (specified by hardness) |
| Yield strength | — (specified by hardness) |
| Hardness | 58–62 HRC (hardened) |
| Density | 7.70 g/cm³ |
| Machinability | ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) |
| Corrosion resistance | ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5) |

## When to choose it

The default for high-volume blanking and forming tooling: massive chromium carbides grind away abrasion for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Rough-machine annealed, harden, finish by EDM/grinding.

## When to look elsewhere

Toughness is only moderate — shock-loaded edges chip; choose A2 (or S7) for interrupted or impact duty. Semi-stainless at best: store oiled or coated in humid climates.

## Typical applications

- Blanking and piercing punches
- Forming and coining dies
- Shear blades and slitting knives
- Wear plates and gibs
