# EV Battery Busbars & Terminals

> CNC machining suits prototype and low-to-mid volume EV busbars with stepped profiles, precise terminal patterns or local thickness changes. The drawing must distinguish electrical contact zones from clearance geometry and define copper grade, edge condition, flatness, plating, masking and conductivity documentation before production.

## Components and applications

- Battery module interconnects
- Pack-level power distribution bars
- Inverter and contactor terminals
- Charging-system conductors

## Recommended manufacturing route

1. Verify grain, temper and flatness of copper stock.
2. Machine profiles and holes with burr-controlled tooling.
3. Deburr without rounding protected contact geometry.
4. Plate, inspect conductivity scope and pack against oxidation.

## Drawing and RFQ controls

| Control | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Contact zones | Mark surfaces where flatness, roughness and plating directly affect the electrical joint. |
| Edge condition | Set a measurable burr and edge-break requirement around holes and insulation zones. |
| Plating mask | Define tin, nickel or silver area, thickness and excluded regions. |

## Inspection to define before production

- Hole position, profile and contact-flatness results
- Material certificate and conductivity record when requested
- Plating thickness, adhesion scope and protected packing

## Standards and documentation scope

- **Customer electrical specification**: Conductivity and plating acceptance must be stated on the drawing or RFQ.
- **PPAP support**: Dimensional and material records can be formatted to the agreed submission level.

## Buyer questions, answered

### When should an EV busbar be machined instead of stamped?

Machining is useful for prototypes, changing designs, thick sections and complex terminal geometry. Stable high-volume flat parts usually move to stamping after design validation.

### How should busbar burrs be specified?

State a measurable maximum burr or edge break and identify electrical-contact and insulation interfaces. A generic deburr note is not enough for high-voltage assemblies.
