Electroless Nickel Plating (ENP)
Plating without electricity: dead-uniform thickness everywhere, bores and threads included.
Process specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Process group | Plating |
| Coating thickness | 8–50 µm |
| Tolerance impact | Deposits uniformly within ±10% of nominal thickness across any geometry — deep bores and threads receive the same coat as outer faces. We machine compensated dimensions and reliably land final size even on IT7 / ±0.01 mm features. |
| Corrosion rating | 500–1,000 h salt spray (high-phosphorus grades, ASTM B733). |
| Appearance | Uniform satin silver, slightly warmer than electrolytic nickel; follows the underlying texture. |
⚠ Not suitable for
Extreme-abrasion or very thick builds above ~75 µm (hard chrome keeps the edge there); surfaces later welded (nickel-phosphorus contaminates welds); zinc die castings and magnesium without special pretreatment; budgets where commodity zinc is sufficient.
Typical applications
- Hydraulic spools and valve components
- Mold cores and cavity inserts
- Aluminum parts needing a hard, solderable wear surface
- Precision fits and internal bores that electroplating cannot coat evenly
